Efficient development of drugs in animals to treat human diseases is one key goal of research.. However, making informed decisions about drug development requires thorough consideration of all available evidence. Unfortunately, the sheer volume of data has made this process overwhelming. For example, several million scientific articles related to drug development have been published in the past. An individual would need hundreds of years to read and synthesize this volume of information.
To address this challenge, Benjamin Ineichen and his team (also known as the STRIDE-Lab) work on methods to automate key steps of the systematic review, i.e., a structured and reproducible summary on all available evidence on a given topic. These methods will enable stakeholders such as policy makers, pharmaceutical companies, private and academic research institutions to make evidence-informed decisions more efficiently. The goal is to help the users spend less time sifting through vast amounts of data and more time making informed decisions based on evidence.
In Europe, the target markets include pharmaceutical companies, academic institutions, and governmental bodies. Initially, the team will focus on approaches to synthesize large volumes of animal research data, important to optimize drug development during animal-to-human translation. The product will enable stakeholders to make informed decisions efficiently and confidently, fostering not only more efficient development of therapies but also improve welfare of experimental animals.
