Following its merger with University of Zurich spin-off TextShuttle, Zurich-based Supertext has launched a new AI-powered translation service.

The translation industry is on the brink of change: artificial intelligence is taking over more and more tasks and traditional translation services are coming under pressure. Supertext, a well-known Zurich-based language services company, is now focusing on an innovative solution to set itself apart from the competition. Together with TextShuttle, a University of Zurich spin-off, the company has developed a new platform that combines machine translation with professional proofreading.   

The special feature: Users create machine translations free of charge and get them revised by language experts – at a significantly lower cost than conventional translation services. «The traditional translation industry has had its day. We bring professional translations to where people need them», says Samuel Läubli, CEO of Supertext.   

TextShuttle was founded at the University of Zurich in 2010 and is specialized in neural machine translation. The merger with Supertext shows the successfully translation of academic research into a marketable products. The new service aims to close the gap between purely machine translations such as DeepL and translations produced entirely by humans.   

With this innovation, Supertext is positioning itself as a pioneer in the AI-supported translation industry and furthermore is demonstrating how Swiss research is actively shaping technological progress.
