Innovathon 2024: Swisscom Team «Diverse Stereotypes» triumphs in Mobility Challenge

This year, the Innovathon 2024 «The Digitalization of Mobility» pitch brought together seven inventive student teams to present their cutting-edge solutions aimed at transforming mobility. The event showcased brilliant ideas, with the winning project offering an innovative tool for Swisscom employees to streamline business travel with a focus on sustainability and cost-efficiency.

Hosted by Ginetta in their creatively inspiring space, this three-week-long innovation sprint saw teams racing against time to develop solutions to complex problems. 

The event concluded with the announcement of the winning team, «Diverse Stereotypes», comprised of Chiara Ballinari, Alessandro Joshua Pierro, Yannis Abdelli, and Till Baier. Their innovative solution, a dynamic online tool, enables Swisscom employees to seamlessly book business trips, balancing sustainability and cost-efficiency when navigating travel options. Their idea impressed the judges not only for its practical application but also for its potential to create lasting positive change in corporate travel behavior.

The jury, composed of leading experts from both the scientific community and key challenge partners, such as Switzerland Innovation Park Zurich, Swisscom, Post Company Cars AG, Amt für Wirtschaft, Kanton Zürich, and Innovation Zurich, evaluated the solutions on various criteria. These included innovation, interdisciplinarity, feasibility, impact, scientific grounding, and presentation quality.

Aside from the teams’ hard work, the event was bolstered by invaluable inputs from industry professionals, including Juan Pablo Villavicencio Viza and Jiske van Straaten, who provided guidance on how to foster creativity within teams. In their insightful talk during the design sprint kick-off, they emphasized the importance of collaborative teamwork, highlighting the power of empathy, mutual understanding, and the value of building on each other’s ideas. 

The Innovathon has emerged as a platform not only for solving pressing challenges but also for cultivating the next generation of innovators. Through teamwork, strategic thinking, and creative problem-solving, students from various disciplines came together to shape the future of digital mobility in Switzerland. The winning project is just one example of the limitless potential that emerges when diverse minds unite for a common cause.
